Dr. Stanley Schwartz is an internationally recognized endocrinologist, diabetes researcher, and educator with more than five decades of leadership in diabetes care and clinical investigation. He earned his M.D. from the University of Chicago, completed his residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and his fellowship in Endocrinology at the University of Chicago. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Schwartz has lectured extensively in the United States and internationally on diabetes pathophysiology and treatment. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and served as a lead or co-investigator in landmark clinical trials, including the DCCT/EDIC and LOOK AHEAD studies. Dr. Schwartz is widely recognized for advancing innovative concepts in diabetes, including the early recognition and treatment of prediabetes, strategies to minimize unnecessary insulin use in type 2 diabetes, the Beta Cell–Centric Classification and Unified Pathophysiologic Construct for All Diabetes, and the concept of The Diabetes Syndrome as a framework for precision medicine and comprehensive diabetes care. His pioneering contributions have shaped modern concepts in diabetes pathophysiology and precision medicine and have been recognized through repeated selection to Best Doctors in America® (1996–2020) and the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Leading strategies for cardiometabolic product development Dr. Ravi Kumar is a seasoned biopharmaceutical executive, translational medicine leader, and entrepreneur with nearly four decades of experience advancing innovative therapies across cardiometabolic, immune and inflammatory diseases. His career spans leadership roles at small-to-mid-to-large pharmaceutical companies including Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, Pfizer, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and ARKAY Therapeutics, where he founded and led the development of first-in-class therapeutic programs.
Dr. Kumar has extensive expertise in precision medicine, translational research, biomarker strategy, clinical development, regulatory planning, and portfolio leadership, with a proven track record of advancing programs from target identification through Phase 3 clinical development. He has successfully led multidisciplinary teams, global clinical programs, regulatory interactions, and strategic partnerships across biotechnology and pharmaceutical organizations.
As Founder and CEO of ARKAY Therapeutics, Dr. Kumar developed TriGlytza™, a first-in-class beta cell-centric therapeutic approach for Type 2 diabetes that was recognized as an American Diabetes Association (ADA) Thought Leader innovation in 2024 and successfully out-licensed for further development and commercialization. Designed the clinical trial, prepared the IND application and got the IND cleared by the U.S. FDA at the end of the 30-day review period: RESILIENCE-T2D trial ClinicalTrials.gov-NCT03686657.
His scientific contributions include the cloning and characterization of two previously uncloned genes, including Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) at The Cleveland Clinic and Gs-alpha at New York University, reflecting a career-long commitment to translating breakthrough science into transformative medicines for patients.
